With all cases, we believe that an initial consultation is useful in reviewing and considering your options on how best to proceed. We may require an initial consultation before we can assist with drafting for small claims matters under £3,000.00 (plus vat) please see below:
- A junior lawyer at a rate of £150.00 + VAT without reviewing any documentation or £250.00 + VAT with reviewing a reasonable amount of documents;
- A senior lawyer at a rate of £250.00 + VAT.

Small Claims (under £10,000)
Costs Information – Disbursements
If the claim is up to £3,000 you may wish to choose to progress your claim without the assistance of a solicitor or without a solicitor acting for you throughout the proceedings so as to limit costs to a proportionate basis. For claims up to £3,000 we offer the following fixed fee service which will allow you to keep your legal costs to a minimum but obtain limited legal assistance:- Drafting a Letter Before Action – Assisting you in producing a pre-action letter for you to send to your opponent. The court strongly encourage and require the parties to make all reasonable attempts to obtain a resolution before bringing court proceedings and a pre-action letter helps set out the required information to encourage this: £250.00 + VAT.
- Drafting a Claim Form – Assisting you in producing a Claim Form to detail the legal basis of your claim for you to submit to court:£500.00 + VAT.
Costs Information – Disbursements
In addition to legal costs, to progress your claim you will often need to pay disbursements. Disbursements are third party costs incidental to the progression of your claim. Disbursements can be one of the following: a surveyor’s report, a medical report, or a court fee. Such costs will have to be paid when they are reasonably incurred and before the work has been completed, but the money you pay us will be held in your client account until the completion of the work and thereafter will be paid out by us on your behalf.Small Claims (£3,000 – £10,000)

If you are successful in either making or defending the case, you are not entitled to recover your legal fees from the other party. We can offer a fixed fee service (dependent on the value of the claim) where we can assist you with your current ongoing claim at proportionate costs. We offer a fixed fee service on small claims matters. The fixed fees are based on the stage in which we resolve your claim. However, we have provided some guidance below:
- Claims from £3,000 to £5,000 – (estimated fee) £1,500 to £2,500 plus vat and court fee.
- Claims from £5,001 to £7,000 – (estimated) £2,500 to £4,129.00 plus vat and court fee.
- Claims from £7,001 to £10,000 – (estimated fee) £3,000 to £5,500 plus vat and court fee.
Solicitors fees are subject to VAT which is presently 20%.
Costs Information – Disbursements
In addition to legal costs, to progress your claim you will need to pay disbursements. Disbursements are third-party costs incidental to the progression of your claim. To take your claim to court, you will be required to pay a Court Fee. The Court Fee is based on the amount you’re claiming, plus any interest.
